Opinion Pieces

We have started a study of Persuasive Writing. The children are learning about stating their opinion and giving valid detailed reasons to support their position.  Today, we read the book Red Is Best and highlighted the opinion and reason on each page. Also, we reminisced about when we were little and had to have things just so :). After, we interviewed a classmate about his/her favorite special class and asked our partner to share two reasons.  In our poetry journal, we focused on a winter poem and wrote if we liked or did not like winter.  Over the next two weeks, we will continue this work using mentor text.  Our final project will be a written opinion piece about choosing a pet for me.
