Kids And Company-Together For Safety

Today, we had a very full safety lesson that I hope you will review and discuss with your children. The lesson began with a discussion of feelings The children reviewed happy and sad feelings such as content, comfortable, confused, worried and perplexed. Then we talked about okay touches and not okay touches and how those make you feel and remembering the strategy of NO-GO-TELL a trusted adult when our warning bells go off and we are feeling uncomfortable. This then led to a segment on private body parts (with proper terminology) for both the boys and girls. The last part of the lesson reviewed the difference between a swell secret(surprise) and a tell secret. Please let me know if you have any questions about the lesson. We shared with the children how important these topics were and how they were topics to be discussed at home and at school with trusted adults.

HALLOWEEN PARADE

Mark your calendars...our annual kindergarten-grade 2 Halloween parade will take place on October 31 at 9am
  • Parents are invited to the front driveway to cheer on their costumed children. K-2 children should come dressed in as much of their costume as possible, with the rest in a labeled bag. Since costumes will not be worn for the remainder of the day, be sure your child has an appropriate change of clothing.  Please remember to emphasize non-violent costumes, with no weapons, gore or blood. Halloween School-Wide DEAM (Drop Everything and Move) will directly follow the parade outside on the hill

Innovation/Improvisation

Our thanks to The Friends Of Cutler Cultural Enrichment Committee for sponsoring our most recent assembly. The students enjoyed the fast pace silly antics of Boston Improv. The children learned how some of the most important inventions were not planned but came when people thought outside of the  box.

Math Homework- Due Monday, October 27th

Homework-3D Shapes
Dear Families,
As part of  our current math  unit  on Distinguishing  Attributes of  Shapes, we plan  to create a class museum of  3 dimensional shaped . objects.     We are  asking students  to bring  in cones, cylinders, rectangular prisms, cubes, and spheres. We will display  the  objects around our classroom for  a few days. Students  will
describe  the  objects they  brought from  home. Then they  will  each choose several  from  our class museum to sketch  and describe  in our math journals.    We  will return all  the  objects soon as we finish our museum project. It would be helpful if you labeled  yours with  your child's name.

Many  thanks  for  helping  to make our 3D shape
Museum a success!

Kids and Company- Lesson 3

Today, we had Kids And Company-Together For Safety and Mrs.McIlvaine reviewed the safety strategy of Check First! The students discussed why it is important to check first and who they should check with before changing a plan, activity or location. Please review some scenarios with your child and practice which safety strategy you would use and why! Also, please continue to review phone numbers and addresses.

Check First- We Learned this during Kids And Company Too

Chorus
CHECK FIRST, CHECK FIRST
It’s safer and smarter by far, by far
CHECK FIRST, CHECK FIRST
We need to know where you are.

Before we answer the door,
Before we run out to play,
Before we help someone older,
We check to make sure it’s O.K.
Chorus
Before we go for a ride,
Before we go a new way,
Before we make some new plans,
We check to make sure it’s O.K.
Chorus

Have fun and laugh!!

Dear First Grade Families,                                                                October 22, 2014

In an effort to continue to support and foster a positive connection between home and school we would like to ask that if your child comes home and shares a concern about something that happened during their school day, in the classroom, lunchroom, or even on a bus ride, that you connect with your child’s teacher as soon as possible to share that concern.  This way we can work together to find a solution and make sure the children feel safe and comfortable in their school environments. It is hard for teachers to be of help if we are unaware of a certain situation or concern. Please feel free to send an email or set up an appointment time to meet with your child’s teacher if any concerns arise.

We thank you for your continued support .

Sincerely,

Mrs. Greene
Mrs. Adamik
