Authors and Illustrators

This year, we will engage in bookmaking. The children will make thoughtful decisions as authors and illustrators. We will study a variety of illustration techniques and think about how authors choose words, phrases and text design to create meaning.

math games

We played a variety of dice games. It was a great way to begin our year long focus on using games to reinforce addition and subtraction facts.

Our Poetry Journals

We were excited to begin working in our poetry journals.  As part of our literacy study, we will put all a variety of poems, lyrics and traditional rhymes in our journals.  Today, we put in a poem about the month of August from the book Chicken Soup With Rice. Then, we discussed visualization and text to self connections.

Please Send In Your Information

School Directory- Deadline September 10

It's that time of year again....time to submit your information to be included in the 2014-2015 Elementary School Directory, which will be published in October!

Each year the Friends of Buker, Cutler, and Winthrop compile a school directory for your convenience.  It's a handy resource that includes the names and contact info of school families from all three elementary schools, along with each school's contact info, class lists, calendars, and Friends activities.  Remember, inclusion in the directory is completely optional, but most families find it a very helpful resource in connecting with others in the elementary school community.   The directory is distributed in paper and PDF versions; it is not distributed online.  The information from the online Google Directory Forms is gathered in a spreadsheet and then converted into the directory document.  The PDF version of the directory is emailed to school families (and school staff) with the intention that it not be distributed but used solely for personal use by the elementary school students and their families.

In order to be included you MUST complete a new form EVERY YEAR. Completion of the electronic form will constitute permission to include your information in the 2014-2015 Directory.

Once you complete the fields in the form, click on the "submit" button (only ONCE, please) at the bottom, and your information will be included in the 2014-2015 Elementary School Directory!

** DEADLINE FOR DIRECTORY SUBMISSION: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 **

Hello All
Here are some photos from my summer adventures. Mr. Adamik loves to ride his bicycle. He rode to the top of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire and I was waiting at the top to drive him down the mountain in our car.  It was very chilly and I had to wear my winter hat and scarf in July.  Isn't that silly? Mrs. McIllvaine rode her bike 192 miles in the Pan Mass Challenge to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Mr. Adamik road the PMC, too. I volunteered and helped riders find their bunk to sleep in and served then cold drinks when they reached the end of the ride. What have you been doing this summer?
