Dear First Grade families,
It has been a privilege to be your children's first grade teacher. I so appreciate all of your support and involvement throughout the year. Each of the children have brought something unique and positive to our learning community. I am looking forward to our 2nd grade adventure. How lucky am I to be their teacher for a 2nd year!
Take care
Mary

Last Days of First Grade
We had a wonderful time choosing books from Mrs. Lee's summer book sale in the gallery. What a great way to inspire reading! On the last day, we enjoyed a great assembly followed by a summer themed DEAM lead by Ms. McCue and the 5th graders.
3rd grade buddies
We enjoyed a morning of playing games, recess and snack with our 3rd grade buddies. Time with our buddies has been such a special part of our 1st grade year.

Summer Reading at the Hamilton-Wenham Library
Today, the children met with Lorraine Derr, the children's librarian from the Hamilton-Wenham library. She shared the plans for the summer reading program at the library and discussed many of the new book selections available. The children will bring home a brochure with all of the program information on Tuesday. Be on the look out for this year's mascot, super hero dinosaur.
The DeCordova Sculpture Garden
Today was the perfect day to explore the sculpture garden. The children were excited to see so many different sculptures. My thanks to all of you who joined us. With that many adults, the children's experience is very personal. I recommend a family trip to this gem.
Pass The Paint
On Tuesday afternoon, the class had their last first grade art class. They spent the time playing Pass The Paint and each person created a unique piece of art.
Mystery Engineering Project- The Pom Pom Launcher
On Tuesday morning, the engineering and design ideas were flowing as the children used everyday materials to design a device that would launch a pom pom. My thanks to everyone who donated supplies and to the helping hands that were available for cutting and taping. The designs were very successful.
K-5 Writing Share- A Cutler Tradition
On Monday afternoon, the children had the opportunity to share their writing in a K-5 group. Each group was hosted by a Cutler staff member. It was a very special hour. The children loved sharing their pieces and commenting on the work of others in the group.
Let's Dance
Our thanks to the Cutler School Cultural Council for bringing the wonderful Brazilian dance troupe on Monday morning. The children were mesmerized by the fabulous music and dancing.

Will you volunteer?
Calling all Cutler Families!!! Please consider becoming a "Welcoming Family" as we think about helping new students and families join our school community for the 2015-16 school year. This is a fun way to get involved with a minimal commitment. Welcoming Families are assigned a family who will be new to Cutler School next year. The primary role of a welcoming family would be to reach out via phone and email to offer help in getting settled at Cutler and the greater Hamilton/Wenham community. There will also be a few meetings scheduled throughout the year that we would ask you to attend as you are able.
If you are interested, please email Dolly McIlvaine at d.mcilvaine@hwschools.net with the following information:
Parent Name(s)
Current Students and grade level
Home and cell numbers
Email address
There will be an informational meeting for any interested parents on Thursday, June 18th at 9:00am in the Cutler Library. We hope you will consider supporting this program.
Please contact Dolly if you have any questions: 978-468-8475
